It’s a growing outdoor sport, and on Thursday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held for the brand-new Kingfisher Trail disc golf course.
The ceremony starts at 2 p.m. near the Bob Moore Bridge at 1 East Fourth Street.
Parking is available along East Fourth Street and East First Avenue.
Rome City Commissioner Jamie Doss explained the concept of disc golf for those who may be unfamiliar.
“They have these discs that look and act much like Frisbees,” he said. “You have some that you throw for accuracy and some for distance. You play the game a lot like you play golf. You tee off and throw your disc and you try to hit the basket. It might take two or three throws; if you’re like me, it might take ten or twelve throws.”
The course was designed by disc golf players and construction was done by Rome Public Works.
