Cartersville Police respond to shots fired call, arrest student

On Thursday afternoon The Cartersville Police Department released the following statement:

“At approximately 7:30 A.M. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Cartersville Police Department (CPD) Officers responded to a shots fired call at the Ivy Glen Apartments, 51 Ridge Row Dr. NE., Cartersville. 

Arriving officers located a late model BMW in the parking lot with multiple gunshots and numerous discharged shell casings near the vehicle.  

Cartersville Police Investigators determined the person responsible was a Cartersville High School student and had gone to school after the shooting. 

In addition, Investigators learned the student concealed the firearm in a Cartersville High School bathroom.  

Subsequently, CPD Investigators located two firearms, along with ammunition in an upstairs bathroom at the High School. 

The student was charged with several counts of Entering Auto, Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Reckless Conduct, and Carrying a Weapon in a School Safety Zone. 

He has been charged as a juvenile and was remanded to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
