The Rome City Commission will hold its first meeting of the year on Monday.

The commission will elect a mayor and mayor pro tem. They will also re-appoint Sammy Rich as City Manager.  Rich will then appoint officials and authorizing agents, management staff, department directors, and other staff including Rome’s new Downtown Development Authority Director Suzanne Roberts, who was officially introduced during a DDA meeting last week.

“I am definitely looking forward to it, and I love downtowns,” Roberts told the DDA. “I have a huge passion for downtowns and I think they are great. I have a big heart for them. I’m just really excited and looking forward to it.”

Also on the agenda is the dissolution of Rome’s second Tax Allocation District which has been paid off, meaning that the property will go on the regular tax roll.

TAD #2 is in the area of Riverside Parkway and Turner McCall Boulevard and includes the Olive Garden, Starbucks, and the shopping center.

It was the first TAD to be financed back in 2010.

Commissioners are expected to consider election qualifying fees for 2025, and the Rome Transit Department fees during the regular meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at Rome City Hall.

The caucus, which starts at 5 p.m. in the Sam King Room will feature a presentation regarding Banty Jones Park.
