Shoppers be out bright and early trying to take advantage of some of those Black Friday deals.

According to Chris Fincher with Floyd County Emergency Management, it’s good to prepare and think ahead before heading out.

“If you know where you are going to go, try to let your family know where you are going,” he said. At least that way, if you lose cell phone service, they would know where to find you if something were to happen, like your car breaking down. Also, know where your money and credit cards are at. That way, you are not standing in line at the cash register. Chances are, you are going to pull everything out and it’s all going to fall to the floor. You may have somebody who is standing close by, and that’s going to be easy pickings for them.”

Fincher also advises to keep as little cash out as possible at any given time. The same applies to credit cards. You should also always be aware of your surroundings, especially if you are out walking around or walking to your car.

“We don’t want you to get hit by a car, but also you can keep an eye on people who might be eyeballing you and the stuff you just bought as you walk out, so try to keep that in mind,” Fincher said. “Limit your time on your phone. If you are going to talk, maybe be in your air pods or something like that just so you can keep your hands free and you can still have mobility with your neck and your head.”

And remember….a little kindness and courtesy goes a long way to ensuring a pleasant shopping experience.
