The Floyd County Commission welcomed its newest board member Mike Burns, and then selected a chair and vice-chair for the coming year during their first meeting of 2025 Tuesday.
Allison Watters was tapped to serve another year as chair, while Rhonda Wallace was chosen as vice chair.
The commission approved other housekeeping measures for the New Year, including the reappointment of Jamie McCord as Floyd County manager, Malden & Jenkins as county auditor, and McCray Smith, Peak, Harmon, and Monroe LLP to serve as county attorneys.

In other action, commissioners approved a contract with Advanced Sports Group for the purpose of replacing the AdventHealth baseball field with a synthetic grass covering, This requires an increase in the 2017 special purpose; local option sales tax budget of $662,695.
The commission also approved a request to approve the awarding of a bit to Innovative Fitness for the purchase and installation of Encore flooring at the Glenwood Floyd County police gym in the amount of $13,295, and the purchase and installation of a Verkada Camera System by Southern Computer Warehouse for the renovation project in the amount of $35,785. No increase to the budget is required. Southern Computer Warehouse utilizes State Contract Pricing
They also approved the reappropriating 2024 Water Capital funds in the amount of $69,400.00 in the 2025 budget for the payment of work not completed until 2025 for the Biddy Well Phase III project. This is to pay an invoice to Hand Service Co., Inc. No request was submitted with the 2025 budget requests to reappropriate these funds.
The purchase and installation of a commercial Unimac Washer & Dryer to Southeastern Laundry Equipment Sales for P.A.W.S. in the amount of $29,855 using 2023 SPLOST funds was also approved. Although this was not the lowest bid submitted, this vendor supplied a responsive and responsible bid with the quickest delivery.
