Rome police detain student over social media threat

The Rome Police Department released the following statement Tuesday afternoon (January 14th, 2025):

“Rome City Police in collaboration with Rome City Schools investigated a potential threat made on social media and a Rome Middle School student has been detained pending investigation. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.

“We take all threats to our schools seriously. There is a no-tolerance policy for anyone threatening violence or harm at a school. These threats are not jokes, and the Rome Police Department will take appropriate action,” Rome City Police Chief Denise Downer-McKinney said.
