Man charged with items prohibited for possession by an inmate

A Covington, Georgia man is accused of attempting to bring contraband into the Floyd County Prison in January of 2023.

According to an arrest warrant:

43-year-old Kenneth Marshall Gibbs concealed two vape canisters, four syringes, one vape cartridge, three batteries, a cigarette lighter, and less than a gram of marijuana in a body cavity while trying to enter the prison.

He was taken to the Floyd County Jail for an x-ray at which time it was discovered the items had been evacuated and were found in the back seat of the patrol vehicle.

Two charged with fentanyl possession

Two men were arrested late last week on drug charges following a traffic stop on Highway 101 at Zona Kay Drive.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

A vehicle driven by 62-year-old Yunervicc Boeta Smith of Rome was stopped for a tag light violation.

A baggie containing suspected fentanyl was then found in the vehicle.

Smith and 36-year-old Austin Mark Outlaw of Calhoun were both charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

Outlaw was additionally charged with obstruction when he refused to identify himself to the officer.
