The Floyd County Police Department recognized its Officer of the Year, and Officers of the Quarter today at our annual Christmas Luncheon.
2024 Officer of the Year is awarded to Sgt John Overstreet
On 09/16/2024, while off duty, Sgt Overstreet provided emergency first aid to an elderly man who had been struck by a vehicle in the Publix parking lot. The man suffered severe trauma to both legs. Sgt Overstreet used his shirt and belt to apply improvised tourniquets to the victim’s legs. Rome Police Sgt Burnes submitted a letter of commendation stating “His (Overstreet) swift actions and willingness to get involved almost certainly saved the gentleman’s life.
Officer of the 1st Quarter is awarded to PFC Jim McCormick
On 03/21/2024, PFC McCormick responded to a traumatic injury from a chainsaw. The accident involved near complete amputation of the victim’s hand with uncontrolled bleeding. McCormick’s quick response and lifesaving application of a tourniquet controlled the bleeding and helped to stabilize the victim, prior to the arrival of EMS
Officer of the 2nd Quarter is awarded to PFC Brandon Bleecker
On 04/07/2024, PFC Bleecker responded to a call of a disabled person trapped by a fire in his yard. PFC Bleecker arrived to find the victim lying on the ground near his motorized wheelchair, which was also on fire. PFC Bleecker dragged the victim to safety and completed a medical assessment prior to the arrival of EMS and Fire Personnel.
Officer of the 3rd Quarter is awarded to PFC Jonathan Bodenheimer
On 09/03/2024, PFC Bodenheimer responded to a call of a gunshot wound. FCSO Deputy Grant Jackson responded as well. PFC Bodenheimer and Deputy Jackson applied a tourniquet and other “stop the bleed” procedures to the victim’s leg and pelvic area, stopping the profuse bleeding and stabilizing him prior to EMS arrival. PFC arrived on the scene within 94 seconds of the time that he was dispatched by 911.
Officer of the 4th Quarter is awarded jointly to PFCs Cody Lanier and Ethan Evans
Lanier and Evans responded to a shooting call inside the city of Rome and found an unresponsive man lying in the road. Together they applied tourniquets to both legs of the victim, stopping his bleeding. Both Lanier and Evans arrived on the scene within 2 ½ minutes of the time that they were dispatched by 911.
