STAFF REPORTS
Georgia State Senator Chuck Hufstetler and Rome’s Ball Container Corporation are both featured in the Georgia Water Coalition’s “Clean 13” report for 2021.
Huftetler was recognized for his efforts in ending a decades-old budgetary practice of taking money from fees collected for environmental programs and using it to pay for other state operations.
Ball Container was recognized for its role in manufacturing recyclable aluminum to-go cups to replace plastic drink cups in downtown Savannah.
Public works crews were having to move some 1 million pounds of litter—largely plastic drink cups–from Savannah’s streets and parks—all of it bound for a city landfill that is rapidly running out of space.
